Racism and Psychology

Critical Race Theory by Richard Delgado, Jean Stefancic, and Angela Harris (2017) explains the concept and movement of Critical Race Theory. They go into depth on the issues CRT can be applied to and the importance of it. First, they describe the five basic beliefs in Critical Race Theory: racism is ordinary, racism benefits white people, race was created from racism, the reality of race changes frequently, and people of color can explain their situations to white people since they do not know them to the full extent (Delgado et al., 2017). Then, the book talks about the importance of telling the stories of people of color and their experiences with racism and oppression. Now, to some, Critical Race Theory and all these points may seem unnecessary, believing that these issues have been eliminated due to laws passed, a Black president, and other events. However, the five basic beliefs and other points show this is untrue.
